10 Healthy Veggies You Must Include In Your Summer Diet

During summer, the human body finds it difficult to digest food easily. You’ll need to be careful what you choose to eat. Thankfully, we have a list of 10 healthy vegetables that can be eaten as a part of a wholesome summer diet. When you’re at it, don’t forget to rehydrate yourself with loads of pure water.

1. Snake Gourd

This vegetable is known for its internal cooling properties. While this veggie may not be that great tasting, it surely packs a punch in terms of nutrition.

2. Pumpkin

Commonly known in Hindi as Kaddu, this vegetable is high in Vitamin A, and extremely low in fat. It’s a good diuretic and has strong cooling properties too. Pumpkins eliminate intestinal worms and also help in improving the overall digestive system.

3. Bitter Gourd

Bitter gourds are an ideal summer vegetable. It helps reduce the intensity of rashes, boils, infections and other ailments. It’s also known to control diabetes. For people who don’t like consuming bitter gourd because of its bitter taste, you can add them to other vegetables while cooking. 

4. Bottle Gourd

The vegetable has a large amount of water, which makes it a great summer vegetable. It’s commonly known as Dudhi, and it’s easily available in most parts of India. Bottle Gourd helps keep stomach acidity at bay.

5. Chinese Spinach

Also known by the names ‘Amaranth’, ‘Cow Pea Leaves’ and ‘Chawli Bajji,' these leaves are rich in nutrients. You can consume it fully cooked or as a tiny raw portion of your salad. Chinese spinach is a good source of natural calcium. It has a good protein value as well. Be warned though, that like any other leafy vegetable, these leaves contain some amount of oxalates, which in large quantities are known to cause kidney stones. So drink plenty of purified water while consuming Chinese spinach.

6. Ridge Gourd

This vegetable is high in fibre and has anti-inflammatory properties, making it an ideal vegetable for the hot summer. Ridge Gourd helps reduce ulcers and curtail allergies. Its high satiating properties mean that you are likely to eat lesser, thereby helping you lose weight.

7. Ash Gourd

It’s also known as winter melon, winter gourd, white gourd and tallow gourd. Ash gourd has a high quantity of water and can have 97% water content as well. The vegetable helps fight against heat stroke, and the high mineral content helps replenish your body. It has negligible amounts of fat, fibre, carbs and protein.

8. Cucumber

Apart from being extremely high in water content, cucumbers are a major source of vitamin K and Molybdenum. Cucumbers are low in calories and high in satiety values so that you can have them as a guilt-free snack on summer days.

9. Zucchini

Zucchinis are low in calories and high in anti-inflammatory substances, which make them an ideal choice for your summer dishes. It contains a high amount of vitamin C, fibre, and manganese.

10. Bell peppers

Commonly known as capsicum, they’re rich in vitamin C and a good source of water. They have almost zero percent fat and are low in carbs as well. Make sure you use moderate amounts of bell peppers in your salads and foods during summer.
