5 Things That Will Happen to Your Body If You Do not Drink Enough Water!

May 23, 2017

You’ve heard people mention that you can survive without food for a long duration. However, you cannot repeat the same when it comes to water. Two-thirds of our body contains water and even a slight change in water levels can affect your physical and mental stability. Water plays a vital role in the growth, development, and maintenance of the human body. Here are 5 most common things you’ll notice when you don’t consume the right amount of water.

Dehydration

Insufficient amount of water in the body leads to dehydration. Some of the most common symptoms of dehydration include fatigue, giddiness, confusion, chest pain and dark yellow coloured urine. You may also experience headaches, thirst, and feeling of dryness in the tongue, lips, mouth, and skin. The recommended water intake for men is approximately 3 litres, and for women, it’s about 2.2 litres per day.

With dehydration, your body is confused and thinks that you’re starving or hungry. It can happen during the day and night as well. Further, it can turn into an unhealthy habit as you begin to binge eat and simultaneously put unnecessary strain on your body. Also, it directly affects your health as you put on weight. When you drink sufficient amount of water, it wards off hunger pangs.

Digestive problems

Drinking plenty of water helps in effective and smooth bowel motion. When you aren’t drinking an adequate amount of water, it leads to the build-up of toxins and unhealthy weight gain. It’s certainly not a healthy trait. On the long run, you may experience various health issues such as digestive problems, irritable bowel syndrome, reduced appetite, abdominal pain, toxic overload syndrome, and nausea.

Effects body temperature

Both your internal organs and external skin need water to function appropriately. Water is known for its cooling mechanism, and that’s why it’s important to stay well-hydrated after a workout or exercise session. It’s crucial especially during the hot and scorching summer. Not drinking the recommended amount of water can affect your body temperature and could lead to dizziness, fatigue, heat cramps, and various physical and mental discomforts. In certain situations, matters may get serious especially suffering from a heat stroke which can be life threatening.

Causes stomach ulcers

A mucosal lining is present in the stomach that consists of 2% sodium bicarbonate and 98% water. It helps by neutralizing the digestive acids, makes digestion easy and helps protect the stomach. As there’s no sufficient amount of fluid available during dehydration, the stomach does not effectively produce the mucosal lining. Eventually, this may lead to conditions like an acidic stomach with heartburns, further resulting in stomach ulcers.

Leads to chemical imbalance

When you don’t drink sufficient water it affects the stability of electrolytes. Minerals and vitamins that are essential for bodily functions, and sodium and potassium for the functioning of the brain are affected. Chemical imbalances can lead to convulsions, unstable heart rate, and a lethargic feeling. Also, affects the oxygen supply to the various internal organs, lubrication of bones and joints, and disposal of toxic waste from the body. Over time, this could result in serious ailments such as low blood volume, kidney failure, and loss of unconsciousness.

Insufficient amount of water does affect the appearance of the skin. Generally, people tend to look pale and old. The skin has no moisture or any form of lubrication. You’ll also notice wrinkles and fine lines. It’s known as premature ageing. As the body gets older, it retains only low amounts of water. Hence, it’s essential to increase your water intake.

Clean and pure water is necessary for healthy living. Staying well-hydrated every single day will help you be mentally and physically fit. Make sure you consume the recommended amount of water on a daily basis as it’ll help you stay healthy, energetic, and ward off diseases.
