7 Reasons Your Skin Problems Are Not Going Away Even After Taking Medications

May 29, 2017

The largest organ of the human body is skin. It helps protect the body against infections. But skin can get infected and lose its vitality. The reasons could be age, hereditary, infections caused by micro-organisms or an unhealthy lifestyle. The symptoms can be mild or severe in certain cases. Home remedies and over-the-counter medications may help treat minor skin problems but, a serious skin infection will require medical attention. However, there are chances that your skin problems may not leave despite taking medications. What are the probable reasons?

1. Not drinking enough water

You may be suffering from flaky, overly dry or blotchy skin. It’s because of dehydration and not consuming adequate amounts of water. The cells in your skin are made up of water and for the healthy looking skin you need to consume clean water on a regular basis. Water hydrates and revitalises your skin. It also helps combat wrinkles and fine lines that are signs of premature ageing.

2. Poor and unhealthy diet

You may be depriving your skin of healthy minerals, vitamins, and nutrients. Hence, your skin will slowly begin to deteriorate and it’ll not perform at its optimal levels. Eventually, it leads to discoloration, dry skin, wrinkles, and blemishes. Ensure your diet includes fresh fruits and vegetables. Try avoiding extremely oily and spicy foods. Maintain a healthy diet.

3. Bad hygiene

Your skin needs cleaning on a regular basis. For example, facial cleansing is important to get rid of dead skin cells. Sweat, dust, dirt and pollutants in the air can adversely affect the health and appearance of your skin. These harmful elements tend to collect on your skin and clog the pores which further lead to acne and pimples. Similarly, washing your hair and taking a shower at least once in two days will keep your hygiene levels in check.

4. Tobacco and alcohol abuse

Excessive use of tobacco and addiction to alcohol has major repercussions not only to your skin but your overall health and well-being. If you notice the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, then smoking is to blame for it. Smoking damages connective tissues that aid in the maintenance of healthy skin. Alcohol dehydrates your body and results in the skin appearing dry and without life. People who drink excessively may also suffer from both fungal and bacterial skin infections.

5. Lack of exercise

Do you exercise regularly? A workout regimen or some form of regular physical activity is vital in maintaining healthy skin. Exercise is good for the cardiovascular system and it ensures there’s adequate blood flow throughout your body. Also, blood carries oxygen and helps flush out cellular debris from your system and in turn promotes healthy skin.

6. Unclean environment

Just like maintaining personal hygiene, even your home and place of work needs to be hygienic. Areas that are not clean are breeding grounds for harmful germs and micro-organisms that can cause skin allergies and rashes. Make sure every room at your home is cleaned and garbage is disposed of on a regular basis. To eliminate the germs open doors and windows to allow plenty of sunshine and fresh air.

7. Stressful lifestyle

Stress has a negative impact not just on your skin but your entire body as well. Your skin becomes more sensitive and reactive when you’re under continuous stress. It worsens skin problems such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea. The healing process takes more time as well. Learn to manage your stress levels by practising yoga, following a regular workout regimen or meditate.

If you notice that your skin condition is not improving, look into any of the above-mentioned points. Adopt a few changes and you may notice some improvement. One of the simplest and natural remedies is to consume adequate amounts of clean water every day.
