Idli is a staple of south Indians and is one of the most common food items available in the south. They are made from a rice and dal mixture, and are rich in carbohydrates and proteins. They constitute a healthy and nutritious breakfast and are one of the most economical food items available in a restaurant. Idlis are usually served with sambar, a traditional south Indian curry, which is made from dal and vegetables.

Indian curries are known for their texture and spiciness. They are usually prepared using healthy spices, such as cardamom and turmeric, and plenty of vegetables. They can be cooked with less oil and roasted whole spices. You can use curd to increase the flavour as well. Curries form an important part of a traditional Indian meal and are one of the healthiest food options available.

The combination of the above mentioned food items constitute a complete meal for most Indians. In addition to them being healthy and nutritious, there are also economical. The raw materials for these items can be grown at home or in farms. From the items listed, idli and curry constitute a good breakfast; rice, chapattis and dal amount to a filling and healthy lunch, and chapattis and curry make a satisfactory dinner. In addition to these food items, egg whites, fruits, nuts and milk can be consumed as a part of or in between these meals to satisfy your hunger pangs. Therefore, you do not have to compromise on your favourite Indian cuisines, but instead convert them into a healthy and nutritious meal.
