Effective Natural Home Remedies to Cure Acne
Apr 26, 2017
Acne is a common skin condition that affects teenagers and adults across the world. It occurs due to hormonal imbalances, sleep deprivation, stress levels and in some cases, a bad diet (a diet rich in processed food, sugar and junk food).
They can appear as pimples or zits on your face, back, scalp and neck. Acne can be treated with topical medications prescribed by a dermatologist, a healthy diet and drinking plenty of clean and pure water every day. What’s more? Acne can also be prevented and minimized by following some effective natural home remedies.
Baking soda, which also known as sodium bicarbonate, is great for acne because it unplugs the pores and removes dead skin. Its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties regulate the pH balance of the skin and prevent new flare-ups.
Mix one or two teaspoons of baking soda with a little water to make a paste and apply it on your face or the affected area. Rinse it off after a few minutes. Do this once or twice a week for best results.
Apple cider vinegar
One of the easiest and best home remedies for acne is apple cider vinegar. The lactic acid and malic acid present in it reduces red marks, gently exfoliates your skin and treats acne. Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water and apply it on your skin. This mixture acts as a great toner, reduces sebum production and makes your skin less oily.
Lemon juice is a great remedy for acne because it acts as an excellent astringent. It removes the excess oil from your skin and reduces the swelling and redness of pimples. It also helps in lightening acne scars.
Squeeze a few drops of lemon juice and use a cotton ball to apply it on the affected area of your skin. Let it dry up and then rinse it off with cold water. Make sure you wash it off before going out in the sun.
Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil, commonly known as melaleuca oil, can be used to treat acne because of its potent antibacterial, antiviral and antimicrobial properties. It’s effective because it kills acne-causing bacteria and helps to reduce scars as well.
Add a few drops of tea tree oil onto to a swab of cotton and apply it on the affected area. You can leave it overnight and wash it off the next morning for best results. Make sure you use organic tea tree oil, which is free of chemicals.
Neem works wonders for your skin because of its antiseptic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It not only kills acne causing bacteria but also helps in rejuvenating the skin. Take a couple of neem leaves and crush it. Make a paste out of the crushed leaves and apply it on your entire face or the affected area. You can leave it on for an hour and then wash it off.
Aloe Vera helps in prevention and treatment of acne because it contains gibberellins and polysaccharides, which contain antibacterial properties. It absorbs the excess oil, reduces the redness and inflammation and rejuvenates damaged skin. It is a great astringent and reduces excess sebum on the skin.
Take fresh aloe-vera gel and apply it on the acne prone areas. Keep it on for 1 hour and then wash it off. You can do this as often as possible.
