Ultimate Guide to Cleaning Water Dispensers By Yourself!
Apr 20, 2017
Water dispensers are an integral and important part of our lives. You’ll find them installed in homes, offices and commercial spaces. However, you need to bear in mind that dispensers do get dirty. Prolonged use can make your dispenser polluted with contaminants that pose a serious threat to your health. That’s exactly why you need to clean them periodically. Read on as to how you can manually clean your water dispenser.
Before you begin what are the items, you’ll need?
– Make sure you have clean rubber gloves and a sponge
– Lint-free paper towels or lint-free towel
– Clean bucket or container that can hold one to two gallons of water
– A tiny amount of vinegar or unscented household bleach
Step 1: Unplug your dispenser
Make sure that you carefully unplug your water dispenser. Be extremely cautious while carrying out this step by ensuring there’s no water or liquids spilt around the area.
Step 2: Prepare the cleaning solution
This solution may either be bleach or vinegar. If you want a bleach solution to cleanse the dispenser, then all you need is a tablespoon of bleach for every gallon of water. An odourless bleach solution is recommended to do away with the smell. Alternatively, you can also use vinegar by adding a certain amount in a bucket full of water. Also, mix lemon juice to remove any odour that may arise due to the vinegar.
Step 3: Clean it with a sponge
Get hold of the dispenser and clean its inner walls with the sponge. When finished, allow it to stand for around 5 minutes. Once done, drain the entire solution through the dispenser’s tap into a container and then into the sink. If your dispenser has two taps, then it’s recommended to drain the solution through both the taps.
Step 4: Drain out the water
Fill up the inner reservoir of the dispenser with water and then drain out the water completely through the tap. Repeat this step thoroughly around 4 times so that the vinegar or bleach doesn’t leave any taste behind.
Step 5: Lift and clean the drip tray
Scrub the tray well enough and give it a thorough clean. Rinse it with clean tap water and fix it back onto the dispenser. To avoid any moisture left behind in tight spaces; it’s highly recommended to dry the scrub tray thoroughly before reinstalling it.
Step 6: Reinstallation
Make sure you wash your hands and dry the bottle that you’re planning to use. Now, carefully remove the seal from the new bottle and place it on top of the freshly cleaned dispenser. Ensure that it fits well without any gaps. Observe if any bubbles rise to the top of the bottle. It’s a clear indication that the bottle has been installed perfectly to the dispenser.
Step 7: Taste the water
Check the water and if you notice any unpleasant taste, then flush out the dispenser with water again. Repeat this step until the taste disappears.
While it’s recommended to clean your dispenser with every change of the bottle, it might not be possible to do it frequently. Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity of your dispenser too. Moreover, the water will always be free from impurities and healthy to consume.
